Action Role-Playing video games (also known as RPG or ARPG) are a subgenre of role-playing video games that tend to focus on action and fighting instead of level progressing and planning. Action RPG often incorporates various elements from action games and even from action-adventure games. Big part of this genre are also so-called “Diablo clones” or hack & slash games. The typical action RPG focuses mainly on combat, at the cost of simplifying (or removing) all non-combat attributes and statistics. Additionally, combat always takes place in the real-time system and relies on the player's ability to perform particular actions with optimal speed and accuracy. All top action RPGs tend to focus more on the collection of randomized treasure (or loot) than story progression that is found in other types of role-playing games. One of the major changes was an introduction to the Multiplayer mode. In Multiplayer, more than one person can play in the same game environment at the same time. Before the internet era, video games were mostly Single Player activities, putting the player against preset challenges and AI-controlled opponents (which lacked the flexibility and unpredictability of human mind). Multiplayer games allow players to interact with each other in partnership, rivalry or competition, giving them a level of social communication absent in Single Player titles. In Multiplayer games, players may compete against two (or more) human contestants, work cooperatively with a human partner to achieve a common goal, and even supervise other players' activity. Multiplayer games typically require players to share the resources of a single game system or use networking technology to play together over a greater distance. A video game franchise commonly associated with multiplayer is Counter-Strike. Massively Multiplayer Online games (also called MMOs) are a variation of multiplayer games in which a very large number of players can interact with one another within a virtual world. The best example of an MMO game is World of Warcraft.XCOM is a reboot of the original X-Com, created by Firaxis Games and published by 2K Games.
