Fighting Multiplayer

Fighting video games belong to a very specific genre that is trying to simulate close-range combat against various opponents. The player controls an on-screen character and engages in close combat with his/her opponent, which can be either controlled by AI or by another player. While ranged and melee weapons may be present in fighting games, they strongly emphasize brutal and spectacular hand-to-hand combat. Fighting games were one of the dominant genres in the 1990s, thanks to the legendary franchises like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter, still considered by many as the best titles of all time. Since then, the genre had it’s ups and downs, eventually evolving from 2D to 3D graphics. Other fighting games worth mentioning are Tekken, Guilty Gear, Soul Calibur and Virtua Fighter. With the advancement of the internet, video games started to evolve as well. One of the major changes was an introduction to the Multiplayer mode. In Multiplayer, more than one person can play in the same game environment at the same time. Before the internet era, video games were mostly Single Player activities, putting the player against preset challenges and AI-controlled opponents (which lacked the flexibility and unpredictability of human mind). Multiplayer games allow players to interact with each other in partnership, rivalry or competition, giving them a level of social communication absent in Single Player titles. In Multiplayer games, players may compete against two (or more) human contestants, work cooperatively with a human partner to achieve a common goal, and even supervise other players' activity. Multiplayer games typically require players to share the resources of a single game system or use networking technology to play together over a greater distance. A video game franchise commonly associated with multiplayer is Counter-Strike. Massively Multiplayer Online games (also called MMOs) are a variation of multiplayer games in which a very large number of players can interact with one another within a virtual world. The best example of an MMO game is World of Warcraft.
