Mac is not the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word “gaming”. Yes, mobile games are extremely popular on iPhone and iPad but when it comes to big, triple-A titles, Mas seems to stay behind PC and home gaming consoles. Even though Apple devices were always cutting edge, they are still not associated with video games. You might not know this, but gaming on Mac computers is nothing new. In fact, the first Mac video games are pretty old and date back to the late 1970s. These games include titles such as Global War, Asteroids in Space, and Flight Simulator. The number of Mac titles never equaled (and probably never will) the number of PC or console games, but there were blockbusters and advanced titles as well. Myst (released in 1993), Sim City 2000 (1993), Wolfenstein 3D (1994), Command and Conquer (1996), and Diablo (1997) are just a few of them. And now? Look at titles like BioShock, DragonAge, and Guitar Hero. The Mac’s video game library may not be as extensive as PC’s or PlayStation’s but it certainly isn’t as bad as one might think. The iOS system is very fluid and efficient, and because of that gaming on Mac can be pretty entertaining.TBS (Turn-Base Strategy) game is a subgenre of strategy video games where players take their turns when playing. This is completely different from real-time strategy (RTS) where all players play the same game simultaneously. Turn based strategy is ideal for gamers with low APM (Action-Per-Minute rate) and more casual approach towards gaming. The first TBS video games were actually converted from historic board games. After their huge success, video game companies created their own franchises based on original concepts. That’s how the best TBS games of all time were born. Titles like Sid Meier's Civilization, Panzer General, and of course the entire Heroes of Might and Magic series are well known among the players from all over the world. Fun fact: The oldest turn-base strategy game is actually the game of chess. Games Republic is a place where every PC gamer will find the best TBS games. Sid Meier developed the first game in the series in 1991 (and oversaw most of the sequels) Because of that, his name is included in the formal title of most Civ games. There have since been six main installments in the series, as well as a number of expansion packs, spin-off games, and even board games. The series is considered a prime example of the “4X” genre, in which players can achieve victory through four main routes. These routes are eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate, respectively. All of the Civilization games share similar gameplay focused on building a civilization - from prehistoric times to the near future (and sometimes even beyond that point). Civilization uses historical aspects from the development of mankind. On each turn, players can oversee their government and choose which technological, cultural, and civil routes their civilization should focus on. Other important aspects of the gameplay are diplomacy and war. It should be noted that Civilization is one of the most successful strategy franchises with over 40 million units sold worldwide.
