The franchise revolves mostly around a series of survival horror video games but has also spawned numerous movies, comic books, novelizations, sound dramas, and even action figures. The series' plot focuses on multiple characters and their role in recurring outbreaks of zombies and other horrible monsters. These events are triggered by the release of the infamous T-virus (and other biological weapons) created by the fictional Umbrella Corporation. The first Resident Evil game was released in early 1996 as a survival horror, but the franchise has since grown to encompass also other video game genres. Today, it’s a fusion of action-adventure, TPP, and horror-inspired plotlines but also employs some level exploration and simple puzzle solving. The entire series has sold over 75 million units worldwide and is considered Capcom's biggest franchise to date. Resident Evil is probably the best horror game series of all time.
