TBS (Turn-Base Strategy) game is a subgenre of strategy video games where players take their turns when playing. This is completely different from real-time strategy (RTS) where all players play the same game simultaneously. Turn based strategy is ideal for gamers with low APM (Action-Per-Minute rate) and more casual approach towards gaming. The first TBS video games were actually converted from historic board games. After their huge success, video game companies created their own franchises based on original concepts. That’s how the best TBS games of all time were born. Metal Gear is a series of Japanese video games, created by Hideo Kojima and published by Konami. The franchise successfully combines action-adventure genre with a stealth genre. The series’ first installment, Metal Gear, was released in 1987. In Metal Gear players take control over a special forces operative, named Solid Snake, who needs to find the titular “Metal Gear”, a bipedal walking tank. Since 1987 several sequels for multiple consoles have been released. These sequels expand the original game's plot by adding new characters (both opposing and supporting Snake), while there have also been a few prequels exploring the origins of many characters. The franchise has also been adapted into other media (e.g. comics and novels). The most notable traits of Metal Gear franchise are its intricate storylines, fourth wall humor, and exploration of many philosophical and political themes, with multiple references to Hollywood movies as an extra flavor.
